PERSONALITY: At first glance Himuro gives off the impression of a cool and composed young man that’s mature for his age. Under that calm and cool exterior lies a kind heart, a passionate fighting spirit, and a cunning personality that will occasionally appear. His kind heart led him to meeting his childhood friend and rival, Taiga Kagami. Himuro met Kagami one day at school when he found out that they were both from Japan and trying to settle in. It wasn’t long before they became fast friends. Himuro introduced Kagami to basketball and during this time they become very close that Himuro considers Kagami to be his brother. He gave Kagami a ring to symbolize their bond that he continues to wear.

However, Kagami is also his biggest rival. Their rivalry began when Himuro noticed that Kagami has natural talent towards basketball, which sparked his jealously since Himuro works very hard and doesn’t want to be overshadowed by the naturally talented Kagami. His frustration grew when he met Alexandra Garcia, an ex- WNBA player that becomes his coach when he still lived in America. She helped Himuro polish his skills and playing style. Himuro hoped that she would focus more on him when her attention turned to Kagami instead. It caused a rift to form between Himuro and Kagami that grows due to his envy and jealously. It comes to a head during one of the matches before Kagami left for Japan. Himuro’s anger towards Kagami continued, until they met again in high school. However, after he loses to him during their match in the Winter Cup tournament Himuro comes to terms with his anger and started to fix the rift he created. He’s able to realize when he’s made a mistake and will own up to it.

Despite his anger towards naturally gifted players he does respect them. He respects Kagami, Alexandra, and his fellow teammate Atsushi Murasakibara a former member of the Generation of Miracles, a known group of gifted basketball players. The respect is mutual as Himuro is one of the few people, besides their coach, that Murasakibara will listen to. He knows the right foods to motivate the normally lazy Murasakibara, he knows the right tactics to motivate his team too.

He’s friendly to many people that he meets on and off the court, such as Shuzo Nijimura, the former captain of the Teikou Middle School team, Kazunari Takao of Shuutoku High School, and many of his female classmates in Yosen. However, under that friendly demeanor lies a fighting spirit for basketball. He’s very passionate for the sport and will not stop trying to improve his skill or look for challenges. Even if those challenges could get him in trouble like the time he joined a street ball game despite it being against Yosen’s rules. Himuro hides that fire under a practiced poker face that a few people can see through. He will continue to fight and won’t give up, until the end. If someone tries to go easy on him he will be very upset that they didn’t play their hardest against him. When Kagami went easy on him after he found out about Himuro’s injury, Himuro punched him and told him to treat their next match seriously next time. He will not hesitate to let someone know how he feels and will show them if he has to.

He can be cunning when he wants to be. He knows how to use the little facts about the people around him to get him to do what he wants. He does this with Murasakibara by using sweets to get him to stay to watch the next match in the Winter Cup tournament. He doesn’t use this side to do anything malicious, he uses it as a push towards the direction he wants things to go.

Along with these sides he has a soft side too. Before the Winter Cup he apologized to Kagami about the way he acted when they met and how jealous he was over his skill. They made up, became brothers again, and he wished Kagami good luck in the Winter Cup. He apologized to Alex for his behavior and the way he acted when she picked Kagami. He got along with the other generation of miracles at Kuroko’s birthday party. At a festival he helped Murasakibara search for the special prizes with items in it while he looked for a toy from his childhood. He’s also good with children, soothing two girls when they fight over wanting to play house with him, and reassuring a boy the importance of refining one’s skills. Whenever someone needs help he’ll be right there to help them, such as the time when his mentor Alex was threatened he put his fighting skills to use to help defend her. He’s very encouraging towards his friends, his team, and won’t hesitate to help if someone needs it.

Himuro has many sides that he keeps hidden behind a cool exterior. Anyone who becomes close to him will see a hardworking and passionate person who won’t give up. He’s kind and cares very much for the people in his life. He will do anything he can to help and protect them.
